Established in 1985 in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, Narayana Schools has grown from one campus into a network of 550+ schools across 15 states in India. Part of Narayana Educational Institutions, the schools offer learning from Nursery to Class 12 with a strong focus on academic excellence and holistic development.
Our Legacy
Narayana Educational Institutions was founded in 1979 by Dr Ponguru Narayana. Narayana Schools began in 1985 with its first school in Nellore. Today, the network combines decades of educational experience with structured academic systems designed to support students at every stage.

Dr. Ponguru Narayana
Born in 1956, Dr. Narayana hails from Haranathapuram, Nellore. After completing his higher studies (M.Sc. and PhD), he started to work part-time as a lecturer at VR College, Nellore. During this period, he learned about all the strengths and weaknesses of the Indian education system. In 1979, he started the Narayana Tuition Centre in a small rented room. What started as a tuition centre with 5 students has become Asia's largest educational institution. There are more than 900+ schools, colleges, coaching centres, and professional colleges spanning 250+ Cities in 23 Indian states. These are supported by 50000+ educators who are constantly teaching and guiding 600000+ students.Dr. Ponguru Narayana also served as the Cabinet Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Urban Water Supply and the Urban Planning Department. He applied his critical thinking and intellectual prowess to develop a technologically driven and environmentally sustainable city for the people of Andhra Pradesh.His success story is an inspiration for all of us at the Narayana Schools. He came from a normal middle-class family, but his aspiration took him thus far.

Sharani Narayana, Director of the Narayana Group, holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from New Castle University in the United Kingdom. Her strong business acumen has been instrumental in guiding The Narayana Group towards achieving excellence in academics in recent years. Demonstrating a profound grasp of the industry and its value-generation mechanisms, Ms. Sharani Narayana's leadership ushered in a series of pioneering initiatives in the junior college sector. These initiatives included the introduction of integrated courses covering JEE Advanced, JEE Main, Medical, CPT, and Civils, ultimately positioning Narayana as a leading institute in the category.

Dr. Sindhura Narayana, a gold medalist in MBBS, serves as the Director of Narayana Educational Institutions, where she has played a pivotal role in maintaining the quality of Narayana's products and facilitating their expansion from 3 states in 2011 to an impressive 23 states by 2024. Dr. Sindhura Narayana firmly believes in the transformative power of the education and healthcare sectors. Driven by a deep commitment to reshaping the way we learn and unlocking the potential of every learner, she envisions a future characterised by educational excellence and equity. Dr. Sindhura has introduced groundbreaking academic programmes and spearheaded innovative ventures, reshaping the educational landscape and empowering learners to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.

Puneet Kothapa serves as the President of the Narayana Group, and under his visionary leadership, the organisation has experienced remarkable growth and earned widespread acclaim for its innovative strategies. With his keen ability to identify emerging market trends, Mr. Puneet Kothapa has guided the group in pioneering ground-breaking initiatives, cementing its position as an industry frontrunner. He takes on the responsibility of leading group strategy, overseeing business expansion, implementing novel initiatives, and managing digital technology, finance, general administration, and supply chain operations.
